Boardwalk Empire S4E10
WARNING: This review contains spoilers.
The endgame of Season 4 is in sight, and all of the various storylines are coalescing. There is going to be a war in Atlantic City (as there is this time every year).
Narcisse and Chalky want each other dead. Chalky tries to take out Narcisse at the Universal Negro Improvement Association office, but Narcisse escapes. Mainly because Chalky did not see the job through, and he gets a shot in the shoulder for his failure. And Narcisse wants Nucky to trade Chalky for a third of the proceeds of the heroin that Masseria is shipping alongside Nucky's Florida booze. Nucky plays along with Masseria and Narcisse in an effort to give Chalky some time to get out of town. But Mayor Bader is no longer on Team Nucky, and sends two police officers to "help Chalky get out of town," which turns into an attempt on Chalky's life. An attempt that goes badly for the police officers, as Chalky takes them both out, while Daughter gets the car stopped.
Harrow is working as a dishwasher at the Onyx Club, and Chalky pays Richard respect and tells him that if he needs anything, Chalky is there to deliver. I have a strong suspicion that Harrow may play an integral role in the upcoming Chalky/Narcisse war.
Eli is feeding Agent Knox some dated intel, and Knox is not too happy about it. Knox shows up at Eli's house and makes some threats. I can't help but think that Eli may be leaving the show next week, but I hope I am wrong, because Shea Whigham really delivers in this role.
Nucky finds out about the heroin piggy-backing rides on his liquor shipments, and threatens Meyer Lansky until he gets a sit-down with Joe Masseria. Masseria and Narcisse cut Nucky in for a third of their pharmaceutical business. Since Nucky is not likely going to deliver Chalky's scalp to Mass/Nar, Inc., I suspect that this deal will never be consummated.
Al Capone is busy snorting cocaine and being oblivious to the fact that he is a marked man. Capone is saved by Van Alden, who is definitely within Capone's inner circle nowadays, after the death of O'Bannion and saving Capone. Lots of good stuff to come for Van Alden.
I am looking forward to next week's penultimate episode; lots of stuff will likely go down and most of this season's storylines will be resolved. This fourth season has been the best season of Boardwalk Empire yet.
Random Thoughts:
- Capone does not seem to know that Torrio is the one responsible for the assassination attempt.
- Speaking of Van Alden, I was disappointed that I didn't get to say, "My name is Nelson Van Alden, take off your nightgown" this week.
- Not much William this week.
- I did not mention the Margaret/Rothstein inside trading scheme. While its unlikely to play out this season, this storyline should prove intriguing next season.
