Walking Dead S4E5

"Cleanup in A-Block!"
Meanwhile, back at the prison ...
This episode is the companion of last week's "Indifference". While "Indifference" focused on Darryl and gang's search for antibiotics, this week's episode shows the struggle to stay alive until the cavalry shows up with the drugs.
Herschel (Scott Wilson) has not been given much to do over the past few seasons, with the exception of giving unsolicited advice and granting a grandfatherly presence to the Zombie Apocalypse. But Herschel's role changed dramatically when he decided to enter the quarantined A-Block to grant relief to the sick and suffering, at the expense and risk of his own health.
Herschel's importance to the group is illustrated clearly in this episode. He offers physical and spiritual comfort to the afflicted, even making sure that the sick and suffering do not witness what may very well be their fate if they succumb to their illness. He carts the dead away so that the corpses can be dispatched before they reanimate in #zombs.
He also makes a few mistakes along the way, like hesitating to give the newly dead a shank to the head. His hesitation turns most of the Woodbury redshirts into #ZombieChow. He intubates Glen and keeps him alive, with Maggie's help, until Darryl and crew arrive with the antidote. As Darryl tells him, "You're a tough sonofabitch." Herschel responds, "I am."
Rick is back and has told a few folks that Carol is no longer part of the tribe. But he does not tell Darryl this episode, so next week should prove interesting, as our two alphas may have some disagreement about Rick's decision.
Also, the fence is still failing, and Rick and Carl try to prop it up, but it falls and #fencezombies stream into the prison yard. So Rick and Carl grab some machine guns and calmly and coldly diminish the threat. "Diminish the threat" is code for "lots of zombie head shots."
A great episode as Season Four keeps turning out quality fare on a show that was in need of a creative lifeline.
The only downside to this episode was the Governor shown one-eyeing the prison from outside the fence. Let's hope that his character is better written this time around.
Random Thoughts:
- Old men rule!
- I am still on "Team Farmer's Daughter." Maggie is a total badass. And she's also easy on the eyes.
- No Beth the Formerly Mute Oracle this week.
- Lizzy calling the zombie like a dog and the zombie obeying? I thought #zombs were unthinking creatures. So why did the zombie slowly follow her without attacking her?
What did you think?
