WARNING - This review contains spoilers
The serial killer arc has wrapped up and The Bridge is dealing with the aftermath. And I must say, I liked this penultimate episode.
We finally got back to the premise of the show that we started watching during the early run of the season. The El Paso/Juarez dynamic is an interesting world and as the show moves past the evil mastermind of David Tate (who has a brief scene where he smirked at Marco as he was perp walked into the courthouse), we get a glimpse of where this show may be headed in the second season.
Hey, The Bridge producers, if you're reading this. More Galvan and Linder, please.
And Sonya's character development is progressing nicely, as we see her lamenting the salvaging of her sister's Bronco and her new-found empathy for her "partner", Marco. Marco's on a month-long bender after the death of his son (he doesn't seem too concerned that his wife is gone), and Sonya's trying to reignite his passion for his work, by stopping in to see him and his Walter White-inspired beard. After a few failed attempts, I think Sonya has rescued Marco from his pity party and when we last see him, he's clean-shaven and at the courthouse (where the previously-mentioned Dr. Evil wannabe smirks at him).
Let's talk about Fausto Galvan. Charlotte has wisely decided to return the cartel package that Ray brought back from the tunnel shootout. And what's Galvan doing? Why, he's watching the circus performers practice. Now that's good stuff. After Charlotte asks for 15% of the drug traffic through her tunnel, Galvan agrees, while telling her that he wants access to her womanly wiles. Even engages in some creepy crotch grabbing. And Charlotte seems to be somewhat receptive to Galvan's advances. Why not? She's slept with every other man in the greater El Paso area.
Someone needs to remind Charlotte that she can't be half a gangster. I heard that line on a show once.
And Mutton Chops is back. And he's still sweet on Eva, only Eva has decided to leave the safety of the compound for a job in a Juarez factory. She makes a mistake by getting into a manager's car and then we next see her being locked into a jail cell. For her safety. And then she becomes entertainment for the police officers. Meanwhile, Linder is desperately searching for his betroved (who doesn't know that Linder has intentions on making her an honest woman), even seeking out Sonya for help. Sonya uses Eva's disappearance as the means to get Marco to snap out of his depression. And we last see Linder poking soft ground with a stick, in an odd scene where many folks are searching freshly dug dirt for bodies. This is the kind of stuff I signed up for when I started watching this show.
One more episode coming up before the season break.
Random Thoughts:
- There has to be an upcoming episode next season where Hank Wade flashes back to his younger days and we find out that Linder is his son.
- Hank needs to wash his truck.
- Still no Caesar. I hope we get to see him again in the season finale.
